Installation Guide

Step-by-step instructions to set up your SmartOutlet device

1

Get MAC Address from ESP32 Device

  • Power on your ESP32 device (plug it in or connect power)
  • Look at the OLED display (small screen on the device)
  • The MAC address will be shown on the OLED screen when the device starts
  • Copy the MAC address from the display (format: XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX)

📱 Device MAC Address: XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX

Example of what you’ll see on the OLED screen.

2

Register Device in Dashboard

  • Log in to your Landlord dashboard
  • Go to "Device Installation" page
  • Fill in the Outlet Name (e.g., "Room 101 Outlet 1")
  • Paste the MAC Address you copied from the OLED display
  • Optionally add Location and Room Number
  • Click "Install Device" button
  • A unique Device Token will be generated automatically
3

Update Device Token via WiFi Manager

  • After device registration, copy the Device Token from the dashboard
  • When the ESP32 has no token (or you need to change it), it creates a WiFi access point: "SmartOutlet-AP"
  • Connect your phone or computer to the "SmartOutlet-AP" WiFi network
  • Open a browser and go to: http://192.168.4.1
  • Enter your WiFi credentials (SSID and Password)
  • In the Device Token field, paste the token you copied from the dashboard
  • Click "Save" — the token is saved on the device (no code upload needed)
Note: The device token is saved permanently in the ESP32's memory via the WiFi Manager. No code rebuild needed!
4

Wait for Connection

  • After saving in the WiFi Manager, the device will connect to your WiFi
  • It will start sending telemetry data to the server
  • Check the OLED display for "WiFi connected" and telemetry sending messages
5

Verify Installation

  • Wait a few minutes for the device to send its first telemetry data
  • Go to "Outlets Management" page in your dashboard
  • The device Status should change from "OFFLINE" to "ONLINE"
  • Once ONLINE, the device is successfully connected and sending data
  • You can now assign the outlet to a tenant from the "Outlets" page
Pro Tips:
  • The MAC address is automatically detected by the ESP32 code
  • Device token must match exactly - any extra spaces will cause authentication failure
  • If device shows "Token Invalid!" on OLED, reconnect to "SmartOutlet-AP" and double-check the token in the WiFi Manager portal
  • Devices send telemetry data every 10 seconds when online
  • You can view real-time data and control outlets from the "Outlets" management page
  • To reset WiFi configuration, hold the BOOT button for 5 seconds
